The establishment of a small-scale operational facility nestled within the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott will be our starting point. The aim of this facility is to put into practice the extensive research we have conducted on methodologies for the optimal production of Spirulina. Our focus will be on familiarizing ourselves with the environmental conditions and associated challenges, making any necessary adjustments to our cultivation procedures and equipment before scaling up in the future.
This phase will utilize an area of around 1000 square meters and will house a 15 cubic meter Spirulina raceway cultivation. Additionally, we will be implementing both NFT and drip system aquaponics – cultivating a variety of leafy greens, fruiting crops and African catfish.
This site will serve not only to perfect cultivation methodologies, but also as the location for us to conduct a comprehensive study on the effects resulting from Spirulina inclusion at different quantities in poultry diets. This study will assess growth rates/feed conversion, mortality rates, egg productivity and several other factors related to the health of the poultry. We intend to involve local educational institutions in this study.
The site will be used as an educational/training facility and experimental testing facility once we move to phase 2. We hope it will demonstrate the potential that can be unlocked from a small section of land with the right techniques and can serve as a blueprint, stimulating the aquaculture industry in Mauritania.
